Kurt Bressner
President
Kurt
and his wife Diane joined Unity of Delray Beach in 2001, immediately taken by
the message and friendliness. It was their first experience with Unity, and
it has had a profound impact on their approach to everything.
Kurt is city manager of Boynton
Beach, Florida,
appointed in April 2000. Prior to his coming to the City of Boynton
Beach, he served as village manager of Bensenville, Illinois;
village manager of the Village of Downers Grove, Illinois; and held several
other similar positions. Some of his other activities include the presidency
of the Palm Beach County City Manager's Association, vice-chair of the Palm
Beach County Fire-Rescue Level of Service Committee, and he is a graduate of
the 2008 class of Leadership Palm Beach.
In his role as city manager, Kurt works as an "agent of democracy"
by getting out into the community and working with organizations and
individual citizens. His personal work style is to make house calls and to
get out of the office to meet with people and city employees at work.
Kurt received his undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Illinois,
and a master’s degree in political science and public administration from Northern Illinois University.
He and staff members have presented the city's unique grants process, which
tripled grant revenue to the City, to the International City/County
Management Association and to the Innovation Groups national conferences.
Kurt periodically teaches public administration courses at Barry University. He is a member of the American Heart Walk
executive committee.
He enjoys photography, especially coupled with travel, and his eclectic taste
in music includes classical, jazz, and Bruce Springsteen. His regular fitness
trips to the YMCA are a nice mix of exercise and conversation. A goal for
2009 is to fire up his genealogy research and update his family tree records.
He’s read all of Carl Hiaasen, enjoys reading American History−
especially the Civil War− and really liked Bruce Wilkinson’s The Dream Giver, introduced to him
through a series of Sunday messages by Nancy. Kurt says, “I have an ‘attitude of
gratitude’ for the gifts that have come my way in family, health, prosperity,
and work.”
Kurt and Diane, an administrator at Palm Beach
Community College, live in Boynton Beach. They
have one daughter who is married and lives in Vero Beach.
