Gayl
has been a member of Unity of Delray Beach since 1957. Actively involved in
planning the building of our current church facility in 1963, she was also
instrumental in founding Unity
School here on our
campus, and she served as one of its four original teachers. Each of her
three children is a graduate of Unity
School.
Gayl’s volunteer work at the church has included facilitating classes,
conducting prayer and meditation groups, teaching in the Youth Education
Department, and leading Wednesday evening services. She has also served as a
platform assistant for many years.
Within the church Gayl has organized and produced special events. She
currently holds the position of director of protocol for Unity of Delray
Beach. In previous years she has held the offices of president, vice-president,
and secretary on the church’s Board of Directors.
Her involvement in the community has included sitting on the boards of the
South County Drug Abuse Foundation, Wayside House, and the Beach Property
Owners Association. Gayl has also served several terms as president of the
Delray Beach Historical Society and as general chairman of the
organization’s Annual Antiques Show and Sale.
In 2000, she was honored by Bethesda
Memorial Hospital
with its first annual Woman of Grace award to celebrate her volunteerism. She
is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Boca Raton.
Gayl and her late husband, Harvey Brown, Sr., have three adult children: Susan Long, Anne Pugliese, and Harvey
Brown, Jr.; and seven grandchildren.
